Go-ahead for second Vita Student Leeds scheme
Plans for a new development of more than 300 student flats on the site of a stalled hotel development site in Leeds have been given the green light.
Vita Student was granted planning permission for 312 apartments on the former Hilton hotel site at Portland Crescent by Leeds City Council yesterday (23 August 2018), in line with a planning officer’s recommendation.
The site, which was originally granted for a 12-storey hotel, has lain dormant since March 2015. Work will now begin to develop the building immediately ahead of the expected opening in September 2020.
When complete the development will comprise two adjoining towers of 16 and five storeys and feature 312 individual studios. The top floor studios will feature private terraces.
A social area will be created on the ground floor for students to socialise and study in, as well as media rooms, private study areas, a gym, coffee shop and private dining facilities.
Michele Steel, Vita Group’s strategic planning director, said: “This second Leeds site is in a fantastic location and will offer students in the city an unparalleled living experience whilst they study. With our first Vita Student residence on track to open next September, we’re looking forward to getting on site and finally bringing this much talked about development back to life.”
The architects’ practice working on this project is Fuse Studios. The planning advisor is GVA HOW Planning.
This will be Vita Student’s second residence in the city, with its first opening in September 2019 at St Alban’s Place.
