Green Light for Goods Station, Vita Group’s Major Mixed-Use Scheme in Birmingham

8thMay 2025, Birmingham –  Vita Group’s vision for a new sustainable urban neighbourhood on the former Axis site on Holliday Street has taken a major step forward after securing planning permission from Birmingham City Council.

The high-quality regeneration project, known as ‘Goods Station’, will deliver five new buildings around a new landscaped square:

•  990 well-designed homes across three buildings;

•  720 student bedrooms;

•  A hotel/serviced apartment building with 278 bedrooms;

•  A publicly accessible food hall for independent food retailers.

Goods Station will become a welcoming gateway between Westside and the city centre core, significantly improving accessibility and creating a new route for pedestrians from New Street Station to the theatres, bars and restaurants of Centenary Square, Broad Street and Brindley Place.

The delivery of these proposals will also provide a significant economic boost to Birmingham’s economy. In its construction phase alone, the regeneration of the site is expected to create circa 485 jobs in the West Midlands and will contribute circa £245M to the local economy.

Once complete, the Goods Station will continue to benefit the city, creating around 185 jobs on-site, generating £2.4M additional council tax for the city and adding circa £7.8M Birmingham’s economy each year.

“Goods Station will transform a brownfield site into a 21st century sustainable urban neighbourhood, creating hundreds of new homes, a public food hall and an urban square for Birmingham’s residents and visitors to enjoy all year round.

“Building on our strong track record of delivering and operating high-quality schemes in the city- including Pebble Mill in Edgbaston- we look forward to bringing forward another exemplary, sustainable development for Birmingham.”
